Mission Statement
The Literacy Fund is an institution dedicated to ending world illiteracy. It's aim is to help fund organizations whose purpose is to eradicate illiteracy in the world.
We at The Literacy Fund believe that all problems can be solved with communication, and that communication requires a command of language. Illiterate people cannot communicate, and therefore cannot solve problems. They are then unable to contribute aid to others who are solving problems. We believe that people are basically good, and given the chance will help themselves and their fellow man. Communication leads to understanding and understanding is at the core of cooperation and getting along in this troubled world. Advanced communication systems like cellular phones and the internet have made access to each other immediate all across the globe. This allows for a greatly increased ability to help each other solve problems in our homes, communities and the world, but this can happen only if we can communicate.
A person who cannot read or write feels alienated from the world they live in. They cannot communicate their ideas, and they cannot receive information that could help them help themselves and others. Today’s illiterate person feels more isolated than ever, knowing that everyone else can communicate all over the world in an instant. They become upset, dejected, suppressed down and unable to produce any of societies’ products. This divorces them from humanity and forces them into a life of degradation and poverty, which inevitably leads to crime, drugs and the other many degraded lower states of existence.
Communication is the solution, and education the illiterate is the way out for these people, and for all of us. We at The Literacy Fund believe the solution to the world’s problems begins and ends with communication and understanding. Your contribution goes to support the organizations that offer the teaching of illiterate people. Young and old alike, anyone who cannot read and write will be offered the chance to regain their self esteem and become a functioning, productive member of society. The entire world benefits from your donation. If you help one person to read you could be freeing the mind of the inventor of the cure for cancer, or a community leader who ends hunger in her district, or a sports hero who uses their fame to inspire greatness in the youth of today. The smallest donation can bring one book to an adult who can regain his self respect and move from a cardboard box in the street into a clean apartment, allowing him to get a job and make a difference to himself and his community.
